What does this verbal phrase modify

Hi,

What does the present participle phrase "deviating from the required temperature range of 200 to 250 degrees Fahrenheit" modify? The word "temperature" or "degrees F"? Or what I'm saying doesnt make any sense?

On Jan 17, during the cook-off of the year, a baker discovered that the temperature in the oven used to bake cakes reached -10 degrees Fahrenheit deviating from the required temperature range of 200 to 250 degrees Fahrenheit.

  • No.
  • It makes sense.
  • The only thing that doesn't make sense to me is your description of the participle clause as a modifier.
  • It's an extra predicate, I'd say.
