What does this sentence mean in this context?

One weekend Dad and I went on a fishing trip to the nearby river. It's famous for its big catfish. But we never had worse luck at catching fish. For three days we caught such tiny catfish that we had to throw them back into the river. On Sunday at around 5 p.m. we decided to go home. As we were leaving, we heard people shouting. When we turned around we saw the biggest fish we had ever seen, disappearing beneath the water. It was a giant catfish, probably waving goodbye to us!

Thanks! But still... I don't know why that sentence means like you said. Could you please explain it to me...?

If I caught only three small fish on Friday, then I had bad luck.
If I caught only two small fish on Saturday, then I had worse luck (On Saturday than on Friday).

If, On Sunday, I caught no fish at all, for the first time in my life, that was very bad luck. In fact, it was the worst luck I have ever had. I have never had worse luck.
