What does this sentence mean?

  1. He is out of his mind that he drove from Florida to New York in one day!

  2. He is out of his mind that he is going to drive from Florida to New York in one day!

  3. Either 1 or 2 according to context.

I think the right answer to this question is 3 !

I know 1,2 don't sound natural, but I'm asking this to know the way native speakers interpret the main sentence.
