What does this sentence mean?

Hi everyone,

I wounder if I've understood the meaning of this sentence correctly:

"Marian clutched the arms of the chair to steady herself. It was less a shock than a confirmation."

Does it mean that she was not shocked as much as she confirmed the matter?

I googled it. It's "Marianne", not "Marian". She is involved in the plot to kill Hitler with a bomb.
