What does this sentence mean?

Hi! everyone I want to understand this sentence?
The path was overgrown with grass, so much so that I could easily have missed it altogether.
Now my question concerns the colored part of the sentence.
What could have been missed by the person altogether?(please tell me.)
Thanks!
