What does this pronoun stand for?

The sentence below is from Oxford Learner’s Dictionary.

In the sentence, ‘his’ seems ambiguous.

It seems to represent “He” in a way, but ‘his’ can also be another person who has given him a strict religious upbringing.

Can you tell me what it is?

? He later rebelled against his strict religious upbringing.

Of course a pronoun could refer to any other noun in the greater context, but the reader should understand that one rebels only against one's one constraints.
