For Fo,satire, real satire, is part of the mindset which produces tragedy: without the sense of tragedy, satire is mere caricature, or the relaxed jokiness which allow the supposed object of, for example, cartoon satire to request of the cartoonist copies of the work in which he is supposedly slated. A good-hearted caricature which lampoons a politician by giving him a big nose or flappy ears is not satire but fluffy humour.
I cannot understand the meaning and point of this simile. What does slated mean exactly here?
