What does this mean "descent into the sewer lament"

Is it an idiom? Can anyone clear this one for me? I've been browsing around but can't seam to find an answer.

Yes, there are really tours of the Paris sewers, but I haven't done that yet. Maybe that's what they sing on the way down.
