What does this mean? And what's a shorter way to say this.

I shouldn't be held accountable for the things I was saying in tongues because I couldn't understand what I was saying and I didn't have an interpreter.

It seems to mean that there is a thing something like a language called "tongues", that you said things in that mode, that others might want to cause you trouble for those things you said, that you yourself do not know what you said at the time, that the speech of people speaking in "tongues" can be interpreted by some people, that no such "interpreter" did "translate" your speech at the time, and that in consequence of your inability to understand you own utterances either unaided or with the aid of an interpreter, since no interpreter was present, there is no basis for causing you trouble for the things you said. I don't see a short way to say that. In fact, I would want to see a lot more words if I was expected to believe any of it.
