what does this mean?

Next, in my observation, the ratio of homosexuals to all students in gender-specific schools is much higher than that in coeducational schools. I believe that the reason is that people have an instinct to seek for love and warmth from the opposite sex, but due to the imbalance of the sexes in such schools, heterosexual children are led to experiment with homosexuality.

What does "heterosexual children are led to experiment with homosexuality" mean?

Thank you so much

Yes, but the word experiment in this case is similar to "exposure"?

No. By experiment the writer means "try out".
