So did I - and my search of the Hithchhiker confirms it is the answer to the Ultimate Question of the Meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything.

I heard that from my foreign friend, he said "the answer is always 54"

and then he said "that is the life" and "that is an UK joke"

I am not sure I understand the statement even when I read in Wikipedia

What is that? Why is it 42 (or 54) but not 100 (or 99)

Thank you for your response

I am afraid that in order to undertand that you will need to read the books.

Basically in his Hitchhikers series Douglas Adams suggested that Earth was a gigantic computer designed to answer one question: What is the Meaning of Life, the Universe and Everything. The computer finally comes up with the answer: The answer is 42.

There is no way of reasoning why 42 and not 99 or 100

That is so interesting.

Thank you Feebs and also all of you who replied, now I understand something.

I think I am going to find, reading that book.
