What does thess sentences mean?

I read some more sentences in Englishdaily626, and didn't fully understand the following sentences. Could you give me some idea about these? Thanks

I also didn't understand at first, that's why I put up there for my own revision and for others to learn as well. hoping she didn't sound too breathless. ( She might have seen something awesome that made her breathless ( breathing fast ), so she did something and try to look normal ) When you are ' up front ' with somebody, you try to be straight and honest with him.
