What does "these" refer to?

What does "These" refer to here? I can't figure it out. I think it's forty glaciers but I could also be "extensive snowfields"

"Mount Rainler has a permanent ice cap and extensive snowfields, which give rise to over forty glaciers. These feed swift streams and tumbling waterfalls that race through the glacial valleys."

Thanks in advance!
