What does "them" mean aftre due to??

I can't really understand the sentence below, because of the part of "due to them" ...

Could you tell me what "them" stands for in this sentence and the meaning of it with "due to"?

Peopel accept money as payment for their products and for the debts due to them because they know that the money they get can be used for purchasing the things they want.
