I have a math question, but relating the meaning of the word "share". Say, for example, I have 6 books. I want to share these books with five of my friends. So each of us will get one book. Now, for the question, how many books did I share? What will be the answer.
I am not a native English speaker. The question seems to be ambiguous to me.
One answer could be, 6. And the other answer could be 5. I think both are correct.
I.e. I shared 6 books with my friends. I shared 5 books with my friends (which means I left one book for my self).
What do you think?
Your help will be appreciated.

It is ambiguous, but I would immediately assume 6.
