What does the phrase ''takes a whipping to you'' mean?

I'm watching Anne Gables and the woman said to the girl ''Oh, go on. Git going to the mill before
Mr. Hammond takes a whipping to you. Git!'' I'm confused, isn't it supposed to be ''takes a whipping from you''?
