What does the phrase "like to get" in this sentence mean?

The stewards had been shoveling all day and the paths were as clean as they were like to get.

Hi It is casual or possibly dialect for 'as clean as they were likely to be'. Even if the stewards had carried on shoveling, it would not have made much difference It's a good sentence but that's not a phrase that you would normally use Dave
