What does "read from" mean? can we just say read?

"This is a man who takes a Bible with him wherever he goes and last thing at night he will read from the Bible," Mandelson told the BBC program.

That much is doubtful. But for the first time in months, the two leaders may at least have started reading from the same book.

and, what does "for the first time in months" mean?

does it mean it is the first time in recent months, and for means because?

The "from", in "read/reading from", is showing a direction/placement. " Also, by saying "reads from" it is suggesting he doesn't read the entire Bible, only a portion. "He reads the Bible" could mean he reads all of it, every night (although, most people familiar with the book will know that is unlikely/impossible).

So, may I say like this "For the first time which was happened in months, the two leaders have been reading from the same book"?

Not quite, better would be:

"For the first time which was happened in months, the two leaders have been reading from the same book"

The key words in the sentence are "first time" which mean a placement/rank/position (first, second, third, fourth, etc). You often need to have a word that helps locate or direct what or where the placement is "in", "on", "
