What does "aimer" mean in English?

0A verb "01font00to aim02font00" and a suffix "01font00-er02font00" makes the noun "01font00an aimer02font00", right?02br
00I can understand that it means "01font00someone who aims, directs, or points at something02font00".02br
00But the suffix "01font00-er02font00" is used for an object, such as "01font00lighter02font00", "01font00binder02font00" etc., as well, isn't it?02br
00So, can "01font00an aimer02font00" also mean "01font00something that helps you focus on, aim or point at something02font00", like a sighting device you use when you shoot a gun or play archery?0-

0Actually, I did check with some English/English dictionaries, both paper based and on-line,02br
00and I found one on 05000, but it only shows it as "derivatives" within the article of the verb "to aim".02br
00So I've further researched it, and found "one who aims, directs..." on 05100, which, I think, shows in a form of quotation from the old Webster onlin

0 Yeah, well, it can happen sometimes. I have "Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English" and "Cambridge Advanced Learner's Dictionary" but there's no entry either. If you google it (you won't find this in a dictionary.), you'll get a lot of results of some French verb, and only a few of "an aimer". Maybe the Dictionaries right. Maybe there's no such word as "an aimer", not legitimate at least

0 It actually does exist. It's mostly for telescopes, to point out a specific location in the sky.02br

0 If I were having a casual conversation with someone and mentioned an 01i00aimer,02i00 I probably wouldn't be understood. At best, it would take the person a little time to figure out what I meant. On the other hand, I think 01i00aim, aimed, aimless, 02i00and 01i00aimlessly 02i00would be understood immediately. 0-

0I guess you're right. It's not a familiar word to me either.02br
