What does "poundings" mean?

Please explain to me what does "poundings" mean in this context. What could be the best word for the translation?

"The congregation, all 35 members, did their best to help. They held "poundings," bringing five-pound bags of flour or sugar or potatoes to worship, anything they could spare to feed our family."

Thank you!

It is not a normal usage. The people at the church made up the term "poundings" to refer to their activity of obtaining 5 pound bags of flour or whatever. Language is dynamic, so fluent speakers, especially native speakers make up terminology all the time.
