I worked in the neighborhood to earn my own money

Judging from my own typing, s/he typed 'pie' instead of 'pay' and then typed 'pay' without deleting the mistyped word.

It sounds like he simply misspoke, saying "pie", maybe because he was hungry, and immediately correcting it to "pay".
