What does 'people who care about us' mean?

Hello everyone. Can you please help me understand that sentence fragment? Or make that more clear? Does that sentence fragment mean 'people who take care of themselves'?

The Simpsons, already twenty years old and still beloved, will be watched and enjoyed for as long as there are people who care about us, our culture, and our time.

I would say 'care' in this case means 'have an interest in' or 'be bothered about'. People will always watch it as long as they have an interest in us, our culture, and our time.
