Hi,

in "An ad executive who worked until recently on the Philip Morris account disagrees", what does "on the ... account" mean? Does it mean that the executive is one of PM's accounts/clients? or that he worked in the account/customer service office?

See meaning #4 for the word account.

Explaining simply: It means the ad executive worked for Phillip Morris. This was not necessarily done in the clients office.

To add a bit of complication: most English people would assume Phillip Morris had asked a company to do the work and the ad executive was working for that company.

Hope this helps.

Advertising companies (ad companies) exist for the purpose of producing advertisements for the products of other companies.

Many different companies seek the services of an ad company. For each company which seeks such services, the ad company sets up an account.
