add on It usually means 'adding' with the focus that the thing added is in some way 'attached'. eg He bought a car, and then added on a roof rack.

Sometimes this 'attaching' can be rather figurative. eg She made a list, and later added on another name. The focus here is that she wrote/attached another name to the physical list.
