What does "make sense" mean?

Dear all:

My friend always says Does that make sense? when she answered my question.

Why doesn't she say Got it / Understand .....?
Does make sense has the same meaning as the above two?

Thank you all!

Hi Wilsonidv,

Your friend might want to know whether whatever she told you seemed reasonable/logical/comprehensive to you. i.e. if you understand what she meant. What she said wouldn't be wrong if that was what she meant.

"Make sense?" falls into the same banal pit as "Follow me?" "Know what I mean/I'm saying?" "Are you with me?" "Catch my drift?" "See?" "Comprende?" If it annoys you, reply: "sounds like nonsense, you're just making that stuff up to play me."
