What does it stand for?

The below sentence is from the lecture of prof. Michael Salden.

Can you tell me what does it represent?

It seems self knowledge in one way, and lost innocence in another, and next seems to be both. Can you give me your thought?

Self knowledge is like lost innocence, however unsettling you find it; it can never be un-thought or un-known.
