What does it say?

This is an articule from the Star's.

Last week, I wrote that news articles in the Star should not include "reporter's opinions. Several readers respnded to that with questions about whether news reporting in this newspaper is "slanted" to reflect this newspaper's long-held lieberal values as established by the Star'S legendary publisher, Joseph Atkinson.

I am not sure about the part "several ~ values." Could you either
rephrase it or explain it to me more clearly?

Thank you very much for rephrasing it for me! I now understand what it says. But another problem arises and I can's see the relation between the first sentence and the second sentence. Could you tell me a little more about it if that's not too much to ask?
