What does "it" refer to?

As can be seen from the Samsung case, a focus on brand value and measuring performance on the basis of the brand value added can build momentum and create sustainable growth. It is also crucial management information for mergers, acquisitions and divestments, which will continue in the future as markets shake out and consolidate.

I don't think it quite makes sense. The writer may have meant the antecedent to be "focus", but I don't see how a "focus" can be "management information".
