What does it mean to "cut (someone) low"?

I want to know what "cut (a person) low" means.

Does it mean, say something to the person very nasty??

It's not a standard or common expression.

If someone said to me 'Mary cut Tom low', I wouldn't really understand.

and in that song they say "Don't cut me low".

Whay do you think that could mean?

Could it mean something like "Don't let me down"

or "Don't hurt me (in a certain way)" or possibly

"Don't patronize me"??

It means to attack them (especially verbally) in such a manner as to erode their confidence, experience, etc. This is most often done to undermine someone's opinion or position.

"Cut low" was a term in the 60s that kids used when one kid puts another down with a witty insult....."ooooo cut low"
