What does it mean 'smooth operator'

You all know (i suppose) the Sade's song Smooth operator. What exactly does this expression means?

It's a long time since I've heard the song; but I think the 'smooth operator' in question is an 'accomplished seducer'.

(The 'operation' is seduction; the technique is 'smooth'.)
