What does it mean?

I read an article about cyberspace and I have seen two sentences which I can't understand. Could you please respond to me what does it mean:
1)The Internet is not just about email or Web anymore. Increasingly, people online are taking the power of the Internet back into their own hands.
2)They are posting opinions, organizing political rallies, trading songs etc. It is the emergence of the 'Power of Us'
Thx a lot!

"take something back into one's own hands" means to regain control of it. The "Power of Us" seems to refer to the power that we, the ordinary people, possess.
