What does interest mean in "a treatment of interest"?

What does interest mean in "a treatment of interest"?

Sentences:

Rather than assigning patients to a treatment of interest, observational studies examine the outcomes of medicine as it is practiced. In cross-sectional studies, all variables are measured at a single point in time.

The randomized controlled trial involves selecting representative subjects, randomly assigning them to treatment and control groups, and monitoring them for the outcomes of interest.

------------------------------

I think similiar with "cross-sectional study", "a treatment of interest" has some special meaning. But some classmates told me here interest just means attraction, its original meaning. How do you read it?

Thanks in advance! Emotion: smile

Hi, The meaning is not really clear to me. Perhaps it just means treating a patient in a way that is interesting to the doctor, or at least to the writer/readers of these paragraphs. Best wishes, Clive

Strange. Treatments are usually recommended, not of interest.

I don't understand it to mean that only "treatments of interest" are recommended, I understand the text to be referring to different ways of selecting patients to study -- e.g. studies based on "only treatments of interest" vs. "the outcome after some kind of treatment". As I understand it, the text is discussing different approaches to the study of patient treatment(s).
