What does "I got to sort of -- I tear up a little bit " mean?

Does it mean "I became a bit of - my heart became a little broken"?

Context:

I can still remember -- I got to sort of -- I tear up a little bit when I think back to that day that I called Ax so many years ago and said, you and I can do wonderful things together.

It's the beginning of a sentence that was aborted. It doesn't mean much by itself.
