What does "Had Been" Mean?

Hello everyone!
I am really confused about "Had been" and wish you help Emotion: smile
Anyway, for example:
He has been playing soccer for much time, &
he had been playing soccer for much time
I've heard the first one is incorrect, Help me out pls Emotion: smile
