What does "fit" & "envelope" mean in this case?

It's about tennis.

"On a good shot, you don't just make contact. You fit the ball into a good, long, low-to-high swing. You don't strike the ball as much as you envelope it in a stroke that causes it to travel in an arc."

Thanks so much.
