What does "few if any" mean?

Hi,

I have this situation:

That is an extreme eviroment. Few if any animals live there.

What does "few if any" exactly mean here?

Thank you very much.

Not many animals could live there. The speaker doesn't know if any animals live there but if some do, then not many.

It means that there are a very small number of animals living there - or possibly none at all.
