What does "farings-forth" mean?

hi everyone,
I'm reading Anne's House of Dreams and there's a sentence:
"There was always a certain sense of things going to happen--of adventures and farings-forth."
Could anyone tell me what does the word "farings-forth" mean?
thanks a lot Emotion: smile

Sounds terribly British to me. I get the idea of 'a multitude of activities'. How are you faring with your project?
