What does "bringing it to" mean in this context?

"Forty-eight persons graduated from this year’s programme bringing it to over one thousand persons earning the title of “Family Life Counsellor” since the inception of the programme."

Thanks in advance.

causing the number (of people earning that title) to exceed one thousand The sentence is slightly faulty in my opinion because of problems with the antecedent of "it", but I suppose it would usually pass.
