What does any more than mean?

Anyone could help me translate this sentence?
"I didn't have a choice, any more than I had a choice in being born."
I extracted this sentence from a novel. Don't know what the writer is trying to say. Thanks!!

The writer had no choice about being born. S/he had just as little choice about the matter s/he is currently talking about.
