What Do You Think Of This?

-Danbo?

-This words is a classic. "If you are not indifferent, you have no ambition, and if you are not quiet, you cannot go far."

Considering the context, may I consider it a translation error in terms of meaning?

I don't see how one being not indifferent leads to one having no ambition.

I think there are two possible sentences.

1) If you are not indifferent, you have ambition.

2) If you are indifferent, you have no ambition.

I agree. It seems to make little sense. Unless there is some cryptic or unexpected explanation within a special context, it seems probable that the meaning of it has been lost in the translation.
