What do you think about this sentence in terms of grammar. thanks

With about 200 studies in its capital, wine is surely the most studied food-beverage so far. No other food can even come close to its firm standing in front of a myriad of skeptical studies like wine did. I don’t think there is anybody who still needs further proof to embrace this new wine-mania.

austere125rivers No other food can even come close to its firm standing in front of a myriad of skeptical studies like wine did. I think the first and third sentences are fine. The second one (captioned) is awkward, but correct.

Obviously, wine did not "come close" to its own "firm
