What do you think about these sentences?

Hi!

Are the following four sentences gramatically correct?

(1) I think it is foolish for teenagers to want to have brand-name goods.

(2) I think it is foolish of teenagers to want to have brand-name goods.

(3) I think it foolish for teenagers to want to have brand-name goods.

(4) I think it is foolish that teenagers want to have brand-name goods.

Your advice will be appreciated.

"It is foolish of" scores 943 googles, and "it is foolish for" scores 25,200; while "it is foolish of * to" scores 13,300, and "it is foolish for * to" scores 37,200.

Inconsistent but interesting.

IMO, a more formal (and probably mostly BrE) version of the above would be:
I think it is foolish that teenagers should want to have brand-name goods.

Hi Marius,

...that teenagers want... is Present Subjunctive, ...that teenagers should want... is Past Subjunctive. I don't think there should be any difference. Compare: ...that a teenager want...

Does 'should'
