I have been to Lithuania only once, unfortunately, but one time was enough to fall in love. Vilnius was modern like every big cities in Europe, but I prefer Kaunas. People were friendly, nature beautiful. Not to mention old towns! They were absolutely fabulous.
Not long after independence I watched an interview with Vytautas Landsbergis. The interviewer said that he had seen children begging on the streets, something never seen in Soviet times. Mr Landsbergis said is was the price that had to be paid for economic freedom. Made me think.
Many years ago official language in Lithuania (Great Lithuanian Duchy) was ancient Russian. The capital of Lithuania was modern belorussian town of Novogrudsk...
Modern capital and modern borders of Lithuania was established by Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact...
Lithuania is very good country when it doesn't support local Hitlerite.
Ancient Russian were used only for writting. Lithuanian people always talked Lithuanian. Capitals of Lithuania: Kernave, Trakai, Vilnius,Kaunas(temporary capital after ocupation of Vilnius).
PS propaganda in Russia always try to show us, Baltic states, as ***** or fascists only because we condemn the war crimes of USSR as much as holocaust.
