what do you say when making payments at restaurants

How would you normally say when you want to pay at a restaurant(less fancy restaurant-no full set cutlery, plates, etc. for example cheap Japanese restaurants- where you have to go up to the counter to pay).

OR regardless any kind of restaurants, would you say the same thing?

Does it sound natural to say:
Can I pay the bill please?
Can I pay it here?(at the counter/register)

(at the counter/register) No; no one ever has to ask. You just go to the counter with your bill.

Usually, such transactions involve few or no words.
eg I go to the cash register, I give them my bill and some money. Perhaps they say 'Thank you'. They give me my change. I say 'thank you'.

If I pay the waiter directly, it's a very similar process.
