Thanks Mr.Micawber. That hit me like a lightening, absolutely right. It's been keeping me for a little while, and now it's crystal-clear.
Frustrating! how can I make sense of one sentence at the very first glance?

RobinG how can I make sense of one sentence at the very first glance?
Experience...but often, none of us can. Written language is fundamentally more complexly composed than spoken language.

Guess you're right! Sometimes I get so unreasonably envious about your instincts in English. Cannot complain, though!!!
And I've gone through all the 35 usages of the word draw, painfully!!! but I didn't see the phrase draw in or anything related to the meaning of get involved.
Guess I've got a loads of books to plough through before I attain the "instinct".
Thanks
