i really need information, tell me what you know.

This is a bit of a tall order. Africa is a huge continent with a vast number of different countries/peoples/languages/religions/customs. I don't think it is possible to generalise.

My partner is Nigerian (I am British) and he says that 1 in 4 Africans is a Nigerian. However, in Nigeria there are several distinct 'peoples', and over 200 languages, with English as the official language even though not everybody speaks it. I also used to work with two Nigerians who, although they both speak English, couldn't speak a word of each others first language.

The north of Nigeria is an Islamic area (and follows Sharia laws as well as the overall national law) and the south is Christian but of course people can be any religion anywhere really. My partner is Christian and religion is a very important part of his, his family and his friend's lives, certainly more so than to the average British person.

I have found the Nigerians I have met to be a bit more formal than people I usually meet and they are all mad for shaking hands all the time! They also have a traditional sort of social set-up, showing great respect to elders, children not really interacting on an equal level with adults, and I get the impression that men have higher status than women.

I'm no expert though, you need to get some information from some Africans.
