What do you call a student who studies English as his main subject?

My classmates and I spend almost 13 hours a week to study English at school, yet we still don't know what kind of student we are called in English.
Our teachers call us "English gifted students" but I know it's terribly wrong because we don't receive any gifted education and we are not English!

Please provide me with the right words
