What do I say in a condolence note?

I'm awful composing a letter or even a note.....My dear friend Silvia, sister-in-law, Beth has passed away. I also know Silvia's brother, he is Beth's husband. Please help me write a condolence note....

Such notes are difficult for all of us. But we do not know anything about your friend, so just try to say what you feel. It is good to describe a past happy time, and how the person influenced you.
