What did Ben Affleck say?

At 1:31, Ben Affleck said:
So we can't have him be that good and only be in this little ____ part of the movie. So what they went ahead __________ just took that right out.

This is what I think he said.

I have two blanks. The first one sounds like either "of" or "a". Which one is it?

The second one I'm not sure about.

Two follow-ups.
1. Is it correct to say "this little a part of the movie"? I know it's correct to say "that little a part of the movie", but I wonder if the former is correct as well.

2. I wonder why he said "took" instead of "take". For example, you can say "What they did was take that right out" but not "What they did was took that right out", I think. No?

Also, at 2:01, he said, "If you can __________ break into the lab or something". What did he say in the blank?

Yes, it's fine.
listenever2. I wonder why he said "took" instead of "take".
'Took' is fine. It is 'do' that is the slip; it would be 'did' in carefu

Mister Micawber'Took' is fine. It is 'do' that is the slip; it would be 'did' in careful writing.
Thanks.
So you're saying both 'took' and 'take' are okay, right?

For example, both "What I did was ask her out" and "What I did was asked her out" are okay?

Yes, I suppose so; they both sound natural to me.

I got another question at 3:18.

Clark Kent: This Batman thinks he's above the law.
Bruce Wayne: ____________________________________________________.
Clark Kent: You could say that.

What did Bruce Wayne say in the blank?
