What (christian calendar) day is your new year on ? What do you do on that day?

Hi everyone.
As we all know every country has customs of it's own. One of these customs is the new year's day. Tell each other about your new year's day. Feel free to explain and express!

For starters, I'll tell you about my country (Iran)'s new year's day. Our new year's day is on May 23rd (christian calendar) and we celebrate it by gathering the family around and 13 days of holiday! We have something that we call "The Haft Seen" and it consists of seven objects that all start with the letter with the sound "s" as in "bus". Everyone would have one of these in his/her house, and we usually sit around it in a circle on the moment of the new year. We spend these 13 days by visiting friends and family and on the 13th day, we all go on picnics! Parks and fairs would be full of people and you would hardly be able to find a quite place to sit! Anyway, all of these customs come from our ancient beliefs and would stay with us for the next few centuries to come!

Now, it's your turn. Let's show each-other the differences and resemblances of our cultures!
